Doge’s Palace Secret Itineraries Tour

The Secret Itinerary, also Itinerari Segreti in Italian, is a unique tour available at the Doge’s Palace.

It lets visitors discover the chambers where some of the most important bodies in the Venetian administration carried out their crucial work.

The Doge’s Palace Secret Itineraries tour begins in the palace’s majestic courtyard, where visitors can enjoy a trip to the top of the wells, also known as Pozzi.

During the Venetian era, it was here that prisoners were once confined in cramped and damp conditions.

This Pozzi now houses famous paintings dating from the 13th to the 18th centuries.

Among the famous paintings housed here are Piero Della Francesca’s double portrait, “Federico da Montefeltro,” and Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus.”

Visitors are then led to the torture chamber, or Stanza Della Tortura, as it is known locally.

It was once directly linked to the prisons, where interrogations were conducted in the presence of the judges.

Giacomo Casanova, a historically famous con artist, is one of Doge Palace’s famous prisoners.

Following that, visitors are led through the attic to the Hall of the Inquisitors and from there to the Sala dei Tre Capi, also the Three Chiefs Room.

The Doge’s Palace secret itineraries tour concludes at the Hall of the Council of Ten (CX), which is reached via a narrow corridor.

After you’re done with Doge’s Palace, enjoy a complete tour of St. Mark’s Basilica with an expert Venetian guide and access to the group entry, avoiding huge lineups.

The 3-hour tour offers a unique opportunity to explore the hidden parts of the famous Venetian landmark.
